As a foreigner in Germany, I actually find it heartwarming that a country which has had such an obsession with its own history and the dangers of nationalism has finally, after almost 70 years, come to terms with the fact that it is acceptable to own a flag and even to wave it if the occasion allows it. Compared to the use of football in South Eastern Europe (Ustasha (sp?) supporting Croats spring to mind) German nationalism is quite harmless, friendly and relatively moderate.
